Maintenance Guide: How to wash your streetwear clothing so it lasts for years
Maintenance Guide: How to wash your streetwear clothing so it lasts for years
Your clothes aren't cheap. Don't treat them like they are.
Nothing hurts more than taking your favorite t-shirt out of the washing machine and seeing that it's shrunk, the black has turned gray, or the print has cracked. Premium streetwear requires specific care.
At CUOTTI we use high-quality Heavyweight cotton, and if you follow these 4 commandments, your garments will last intact until 2030.
The secret: Wash less, wash better.
1. The Golden Rule: Always inside out
Before putting any garment with a print or graphic in the washing machine, turn it inside out. This prevents the design from rubbing against the drum or zippers of other garments.
It's the number one trick to keep your t-shirt graphics from ever cracking.
2. Polar Cold: 30ºC Maximum
Heat is the enemy of cotton. Hot water weakens the fibers and causes shrinkage.
- ❄️ Ideally: Cold water (20ºC).
- 🌡️ The limit: 30ºC. Never go above that.
Washing in cold water not only protects the fabric, but also prevents the black color from losing intensity.
3. The dryer is PROHIBITED ⛔
If you love your clothes, keep them away from the dryer. The hot, pressurized air "cooks" the fibers, shrinks the garment by up to two sizes, and ruins the elastic.
How to dry properly:
Hang clothes outdoors, but avoid direct sunlight if the garment is black (the sun fades the color). Ideally, dry them in the shade and inside out.
4. Ironing is fine, but with a trick.
Heavyweight cotton hardly wrinkles if you hang it to dry flat. But if you need to iron it, NEVER iron over the print .
Always iron the garment inside out. If you touch the design with the hot iron, the ink will melt and ruin both the shirt and the iron.
🧪 Pro Tip: If you're washing a lot of black clothes together, add half a cup of white vinegar to the fabric softener drawer. The vinegar sets the color and eliminates odors without damaging the clothes.
Clothing designed to last
